INSTALL TIPS AND INSTRUCTIONS
• If you experience difficulties installing Norton CrashGuard we recommend restarting the machine with all extensions disabled.
• Virus Software: If you use virus protection software other than Symantec AntiVirus for Macintosh (version 4.0 or later), disable virus protection before installing Norton CrashGuard. This prevents anti-virus warnings from interfering with installation. Remember to turn protection back on after installation.
• Object Support Library: The ObjectSupportLib extension is required by Norton CrashGuard. If the installer detects a version of ObjectSupportLib earlier than 1.2, it will replace the copy on your drive with the latest version. ObjectSupportLib will not be installed if the version on the drive is later than 1.2.
• If you have system folders on other volumes, you can control the installation of the Norton CrashGuard's system components by holding down the Option key and choosing the volume name that you would like them installed to.
Known Issues with the Installer:
• The Installer's "Custom Remove" feature does not work in Norton CrashGuard for Macintosh.
• SpeedyCD: We recommend disabling SpeedyCD prior to installing Norton CrashGuard for Macintosh.

USING NORTON CRASHGUARD
Norton CrashGuard helps prevent crashes and helps minimize the damage a crash can cause to the data on your computer.
Norton CrashGuard allows you to:
• Quit an application immediately when problems arise
• Recover from certain crashes and save your work
• Maintain a record of crashes and other system-related problems
How to use Norton CrashGuard:
1) Open the Norton CrashGuard application and turn it On (if it is not on already).
If an application crashes, Norton CrashGuard displays an alert window informing you the program has become unstable.
You will be given three choices:
• Quit the Application - So you can try to save work in other applications. This is the safest option with the best chance for success.
• Try to Fix - Attempts to return to the application so that unsaved data can be saved. Use this option only when attempting to recover unsaved data from the application that has crashed.
• Restart (your computer) - To prevent a crash from adversely affecting other applications or your system.
{Note: If you "Try to Fix" the problem, we recommend you immediately save your work, Force Quit (CMD-OPT-ESC), then Restart your computer. Save files with a new name (Save As) so previously saved data is not corrupted by a potentially unstable program.}

COMPATIBILITY ISSUES
• MacsBug: If you are running MacsBug, Norton CrashGuard will not catch Type 11 errors. Instead, it will allow these errors to be handled by MacsBug. If MacsBug is not installed, Norton CrashGuard will catch these errors.
• System Freezes: There are some types of system freezes that occur at the lower levels of memory that no debugger has the capability to intercept. In most situations, Norton CrashGuard will intercept the crash and allow the user the option to quit the application; on some occasions when a system freeze occurs, nothing will be able to intercept the freeze.
•INIT Conflicts: Norton CrashGuard will not catch extension conflicts on startup; instead it will catch System Errors, as well as, PowerPC and 68k Exceptions, once the Finder has loaded.
• Auto Boot and Keep It Up: We recommend disabling these shareware files when running Norton CrashGuard.
• SoftwareFPU: If you have a 68k application that you are running on a PPC that requires SoftwareFPU, you will need to disable Norton CrashGuard prior to running the 68k application.
• Norton Partition: We recommend that you do not run Norton Partition (part of NUM 2.0) with Norton CrashGuard 3.5.1 or with MacOS 7.5 or greater. Norton Partition is known to cause a System crash at shutdown with MacOS versions later than 7.5.
• MindSpring Pipeline Plus: If you are not using Open Transport, but are using MindSpring's Pipeline Plus, we recommend disabling Norton CrashGuard prior to logging onto the Internet.
